Handthrown Stoneware Vase by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg

This large hand-thrown biomorphic vessel features a deep fluted edge and creamy white Carrara glaze. It was designed by the famous Wilhelm Kåge during the midcentury period.

Kåge was fascinated with folk culture and the handmade at a time when Stockholm was quickly modernising. He started out as a cartoonist and poster artist before joining Gustavberg with no previous experience in ceramics. He would become Artistic Director - a position he held until 1946.

The underside is stamped 'Gustavsberg, Carrara'. This vase is in good vintage condition with some visible signs of surface wear commensurate with age and use. It has a small repair on the upper rim, which I have included a photo of.
