Hand-thrown Stoneware Bowl by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg
This hand-thrown bowl features a fluted edge and creamy white Carrara glaze. It belongs to Wilhelm Kåge's 'Våga' series, which he designed for Gustavsberg, Sweden during the mid-century period.
Kåge (1889 - 1960) was fascinated with folk culture and the handmade at a time when Stockholm was quickly modernising. He started out as a cartoonist and poster artist before joining Gustavsberg with no previous experience in ceramics. He would become Artistic Director - a position he held until 1946.
The underside is stamped 'Gustavsberg, Carrara'. This bowl is in excellent vintage condition with no notches, cracks or repairs.
