Mouth-blown Glass Vase by Vittorio Zecchin for Venini & C.
This beautiful tall Murano soffiati vase features dark-amethyst transparent glass with a ribbed knot on the stem and disk-shaped foot. It has a lovely slightly iridised surface and a gorgeous airy quality that esteemed Murano glass is renowned for.
This very elegant example is known as model 1474, which was originally designed by Vittorio Zecchin for VSM Cappellin Venini & C in 1921. In 1925, the company split into two separate entities (MVM Cappellin and Venini & C.) and both continued to produce this model. Unlike MVM Cappellin, Venini continued to use the same model number. I have included a copy of an original model drawing from the book 'Vittorio Zecchin - Transparent Glass for Cappellin and Venini' by Marino Barovier & Carla Sonego.
This piece has a diamond point two line signature 'Venini, Italia' that was used from around 1966 until 1970. It is in excellent vintage condition with no notches, cracks, repairs or discolouration.
