Handblown Vases by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta
This lovely set of original mid-century vases belong to the ‘Dark Magic’ series designed by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta glassworks in 1958. They feature transparent twilight-blue tinted solid crystal that has been handblown to create an asymmetrical form with a teardrop shaped cavity.
The ‘magic’ of the simplistic but sophisticated design is how the vase transforms when viewed at different angles or in different lights. Interestingly, Kosta’s master glassblower Bengt Heinz had quite a bit to do with the creation of these pieces, developing a bent glassblowing pipe to produce the unique shape.
Engraved on the underside of the smaller vase is ‘Kosta (maker) LH (hand-formed by Lindstrand) 1605 (model)'. Marked on the underside of the taller vase is ‘LH (hand-formed by Lindstrand) 1606 (model)'
