Hand blown Glass Vase by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta, Sweden
This striking hand blown mid-century vase was designed by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta glassworks in the 50s. The tall slender form features an internal emerald green core surrounded by deep blue threads all cased in solid clear crystal. The blue threads create a beautiful lattice pattern effect, especially when viewed at different angles.
Vicke Lindstrand’s work was largely undervalued during his lifetime – in fact, at one point his work was even rejected by the Design in Scandinavia exhibition committee. This attitude was largely due to Lindstrand’s tendency to courageously experiment with both glass and ceramics in an innovative way that at times diverged from Swedish mid-century trends.
Engraved on the underside of this vase is ‘Kosta (maker) LH (Lindstrand + hand-formed) 1590 (model/year)’
The overall impression of this piece is fantastic. It is in very good vintage condition with no cracks, repairs or discolouration. There is a little bit of visible wear in the upper section of the vase and at the base - please see close up photos.
