Handblown asymmetrical vase by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta
This vase was designed by Vicke Lindstrand in the late 50s while he was Artistic Director at Kosta glassworks. The beautiful asymmetric design features solid handblown clear crystal with an ombre emerald underlay.
Vicke Lindstrand’s work was largely undervalued during his lifetime – in fact, at one point his work was even rejected by the Design in Scandinavia exhibition committee. This attitude was largely due to Lindstrand’s tendency to courageously experiment with both glass and ceramics in an innovative way that at times diverged from Swedish mid-century trends.
Etched on the underside of this vase is ‘Kosta (maker) LH (designer + glass type) 1444 (production number/year)’. This piece is in good vintage condition with no notches, repairs, cracks or discolouration. There is a minor internal impact mark at the upper rim, which is smooth (see close up photo).
