Hand-blown Glass Vase by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta
This lovely vase belongs to the ‘Dark Magic’ series designed by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta glassworks in 1958. It features transparent olive tinted solid crystal that has been handblown to create an asymmetrical form with a teardrop shaped cavity. This model is more commonly found in twilight-blue, whereas this colouring is harder to find.
The ‘magic’ of the simplistic but sophisticated design is how the vase transforms when viewed at different angles or in different lights. Interestingly, Kosta’s master glassblower Bengt Heinz had quite a bit to do with the creation of these pieces, developing a bent glassblowing pipe to produce the unique shape.
Engraved on the underside of this vase is ‘Kosta (maker) LH (hand-formed by Lindstrand) 1606 (model)’ It is in good vintage condition with no notches, cracks or repairs. It does have an area with some surface wear, which I have included a photo of.
