Handblown Glass Vase by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta
Unique design, Signed by maker
Circa 1960's, Mid-Century Modern, Sweden
Excellent Vintage Condition
H 18cm, 3.8kg
Engraved on the underside of this vase is the maker's name ‘Kosta'.
This stunning sommerso vase features incredibly solid clear handblown crystal (3.8kg!) that encases a duo tone underlay, whereby pewter frames a beautiful blue ombre. Its cuboid form with biomorphic oval cavity and small stem opening makes it very unique and I am yet to see another vintage Kosta example exactly like it.
The ‘Kosta’ signature definitely places this vase prior to 1976 when the glass manufacturer became ‘Kosta Boda’. It would have been produced sometime over Vicke Lindstrand’s tenure as Artistic Director (1950 – 73) and I have dated it circa 1960’s given its characteristics.
The interesting design combined with its sizable weight, make this vase quite the feature piece!
