Unique 'Colora' Glass Vase by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta
Colora series, Signed
c. 1951, Mid-Century Modern, Sweden
Good Vintage Condition
H 28cm, W 12cm
You won't find another piece like this because it is one-of-a-kind. This beautiful solid hand-blown vase was designed by the pioneer of Swedish glass art Vicke Lindstrand (1904 - 1983). It was produced during Lindstrand’s early days as Artistic Director at Kosta glassworks and is a fantastic example of how his interests in textile design and illustration influenced his glass art work both in pattern and colour.
This piece was created around 1951 alongside a number of Unik objects in the same special Colora technique (which involves the complex overlay of different colours). There were similar vases in the Kosta 1 catalogue of 1954, which was Lindstrand’s first since joining Kosta.
It is quite the statement piece and measures H 28cm x W 12cm. The underside of the vase is signed 'Kosta Unik' in acid pen. It is in good vintage condition with some minor signs of the glassmaking process.
