Handblown Glass Vase by Toots Zynsky for Venini

Toots Zynsky (1951 - ) is a phenomenal American glass artist. Her amazing understanding of glass as an artistic medium and the way she is able to create interesting forms that combine the traditions of painting, sculpture and the decorative arts is remarkable - not to mention her unique exploration of colour.

The 'Chiaccheria' ('gossip' or 'chit-chat') design came about when the glass artist was invited to the Venini glassworks on Murano in 1984. It was there that she created the unusual multicoloured 'Folto' vessels using a thread wrapped technique. It is clear that Zynsky was quite influenced by the iconic 80's Memphis design movement that had started in Milan, which the famous designer Ettore Sottsass founded.

Engraved on the underside of this vase is the designer and execution date ‘Toots Zynsky 89’. It also carries its original label. This piece is in excellent condition with no notches, cracks, repairs or discolouration.
