This gorgeous vase was designed by the famous Tapio Wirkkala in the 60's. Neodymium or 'Alexandrite' glass contains the rare earth element neodymium oxide. When this element is added to the glass melt, it's sharp absorption bands mean that colour transforms in different lighting conditions. In daylight the base of the vase appears lilac, but in white light it appears pale blue. The use of this material really reflects the experimental side of the 60s and 70s.
