Murano Glass Vase by Romano Mazzega/Aureliano Toso
This really beautiful and unusual Murano vase features transparent brown pulegoso glass with applied emerald green details with gold leaf. This method of glassmaking was developed by Napoleone Martinuzzi in the 1920s and gives the glass a spongy opaque appearance due to the many air bubbles.
This piece is attributed to Romano Mazzega, who established his own glassblowing factory on the island of Murano around 1929. Mazzega commonly used this colour profile and technique. The Romano Mazzega factory was sold to Aureliano Toso in 1937 and their early production consisted of many reused models and decor types from Mazzega.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age) with no notches, cracks, repairs or discolouration. The underside is etched 'Italia'.
