Pâte de verre Vase by Pierre D'Avesn for Daum Nancy, France

This elegant original Art Deco lead glass vase was made using the pâte de verre technique, which gives the body a lovely translucent finish. It has an intricate acid etched patterned surface with applied scroll handles in clear glass.

Pierre d'Avesn (1901-1990) began his incredible career at the tender age of 14, when he began working for Lalique. In 1926, d'Avesn left Lalique and began forging his own style. In 1930, he was offered the position of Artistic Director for Daum Frères in their moulded glass department based in Croismare.

The Daum family established Daum studio in Nancy, France during the Art Nouveau period in 1878. Under the Daum brothers, Auguste and Antonin, the glass studio became one of the most prestigious in France and successfully transitioned to the Art Deco period.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no notches, cracks, repairs or discolouration. It is referenced on page 235 of 'Le genie verrier de l'Europe' by Giuseppe Cappa, 1998.
