Handblown Sommerso Glass Bowls by Paul Kedelv for Flygsfors
Coquille design, Both Labelled & One Signed
'50s, Mid-Century Modern, Sweden
Excellent Vintage Condition
H 12cm - H 22cm, W 16cm - W 31cm, 3.7kg
Paul Kedelv (1917–1990) designed Coquille glass for both Reijmyre and Flygsfors glassworks. He worked for Flygsfors in Sweden from 1949 to 1956 after working for Orrefors. He was best known for the Coquille range, which featured freeform sculptural glass pieces in striking colours.
This dynamic matching duo features hand-blown solid clear glass that encases a cobalt blue underlay encircled by a white swirl. The largest measures H 22cm x W 31cm x D 22cm and weighs 2.9kg. The smallest measures H 12cm x W 16cm x D 13cm and weighs 0.8kg. The pair look stunning together and are both in excellent condition with no cracks, notches, discolouration or repairs.
Both pieces carry an original label 'Coquille, Flygsfors, Orrefors Sweden'. It is important to note that Flygsfors was bought by Orrefors in 1974 and closed in 1979. I believe these would have been produced during that period, while the design dates to the 50s. The small bowl is signed on the underside 'Kedelv' 'Flygsfors - 54'
