Mould-blown Glass Vase by Nanny Still for Riihimäen Lasi
The Stella Polaris series was designed by Nanny Still (1926–2009) in 1967 and features an octagon form with circular relief patterns. This vase can be placed upright but also can sit diagonally.
Nanny Still (1926 – 2009) was an incredible 20th century designer and is celebrated for her contribution to the Modern Finnish decorative arts movement. For Still, glass was a living medium that could be both whimsical and radiant. She chose not to draw a clear line between art and functional glass but rather to create forms that embodied both aspects. Her body of work from the ‘50s and ‘60s featured enduring, elegant, and imaginative pieces that were highly innovative and commercially successful.
This piece is in excellent condition with no notches, discolouration, cracks or repairs. It still caries its original label.
