Handblown Cut Glass Vase by Moser, Czechoslovakia (formally Bohemia)
This design was produced by the famous Moser glassworks while Leo Moser was director sometime around 1925. Leo's father artist Ludwig Moser (1833-1916) had established the company in 1857, which employed many talented artisans and was internationally recognised for its incredible designs. Unfortunately, the glassworks faced financial difficulty during the Depression and later that decade, the family were forced to sell their shares and disperse when parts of Czechoslovakia were annexed.
The famous Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann (1870 – 1956) is commonly attributed as the designer of this piece. It features beautiful solid smokey-grey crystal with faceted sides, which creates a unique optical effect. The vase is in excellent condition (outstanding for its age) with no notches, discolouration, cracks or repairs. It is included in the book 'Moser - Artistry in Glass, 1857-1938' by Gary Baldwin & Lee Carno (1989). See final images.
