18k Gold & Ethical Sapphire Ring by KG Markströms Guldsmeds, Uppsala
This incredible Modernist statement ring features solid 18k gold that holds a large faceted lab-created purple sapphire. It was designed and handcrafted by KG Markströms Guldsmeds in 1965. The well known jeweller and metalsmith was registered in Uppsala, Sweden from 1913 until 1992.
The stone is a true testament of innovative mid-century trends! During this period there was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the new technology to grow gems, in particular colour changing sapphires. Many of these stones were treated with as much care and reverence as natural gems. This beautiful sapphire exhibits both warm purple and cool violet blue hues.
The inner band is fully stamped with the Swedish hallmarks: 'MGAB' (maker), Uppsala motif, three crowns motif (Sweden), '18k' (material) and 'P9' (year).
The ring is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age). The stunning sapphire is 18mm long and sits firmly in the setting. The 5mm thick band retains its original shape well.
The ring is medium sized. It is an AU size O (EU 55 & US 7) with an inner diameter of 17.5mm. If you're unsure about sizing, it is recommended that you measure a ring you currently wear to see if you're a similar size. The band can be resized.
