Mould-blown Glass Vase by Kai Blomqvist for Kumela, Finland. 1970s
This distinctive chunky vase features solid mould-blown glass in rich ombré amber tones. Its sculptural form and thick, textured surface beautifully catch and reflect the light, creating a warm, eye-catching statement.
Emerging in the 1950s, Brutalism evolved from the early 20th-century Modernist movement. Derived from the French term béton brut ("raw concrete"), the style is characterised by bold, sculptural forms, rugged textures, honest materials, and striking geometric lines.
This vase is in excellent vintage condition—outstanding for its age—with no chips, cracks, repairs, or discolouration. It is signed "Kai Blomqvist" and "Oy Kumela" on the underside and retains its original label.
