18k Gold & Lapis Lazuli Pendant by Just Andersen, Denmark
This eye catching rare Modernist pendant features beautifully handcrafted solid 18k gold that frames a stunning large cabochon-cut lapis lazuli. It was designed and made by Just Andersen, Copenhagen.
Designer Ib Just Andersen (1884-1943), who was born in Greenland, is best known for his incredible metalwork and ceramics. He founded his own company 'Just Andersen' in 1918, and had showrooms in Berlin, London, New York and Los Angeles. His work today is in the collections of various museums, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Museum in Stockholm.
Andersen's workshop continued after his death under the management of his widow and Ellen Schlanbusch (1902-2005), who became artistic director. The company closed in 1973.
The pendant is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age) with perfect lapis lazuli that sits firmly in the setting. The bail is stamped 'JUSTA' (designer/maker) & 750 (18k gold)'.
The chain isn't included but the large bail easily allows for your favourite chain to be threaded through.
