Blown Glass Vase by Helena Tynell for Riihimäen Lasi Oy
This rare example of Tynell's work is named Sokkelo (or Labyrinth), which she designed for Riihimäen Lasi Oy in the 1970s. The playful design features an abstract form of super solid multi-coloured blown glass (over 3kg!). The effect created by the subtle use of transparent colours through the glass layers is really beautiful.
Helena Tynell (1918 – 2016) was an internationally recognised Finnish glass designer and is considered a pioneer of Finnish glass art. She is known for her experimentation with abstract forms as well as for her glass blowing and casting techniques.
This fantastic collector's piece is signed on the underside 'Helena Tynell Riihimäen Lasi Oy'. The quality of craftsmanship and materials is really evident. It is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age) with no notches, cracks, repairs or discolouration.
