Blown Glass Vase by Gunnel Nyman for Nuutajarvi Notsjo

Gunnel Nyman (1909 - 1948) was a true innovator of Finnish glass design and a forerunner of the Modern glass movement. Her legacy is a fantastic celebration of the emergence of female designers during the mid-century period.

Nyman was a master of beautifully capturing light and colour. Her design is particularly recognised for its minimal organic forms that echo a feminine quality, incorporating timeless abstract and subtle elements. The famous Norwegian art historian Ada Polak was a great fan of Gunnel Nyman and believed that 'Whatever technique she employed, she gave to all her designs a subtle touch of true poetry'.

This stunningly beautiful spherical vase features blown solid amber & clear crystal with controlled internal bullicante. The vase is signed in acid pen on the underside. This has faded slightly due to shelf wear but it is still possible to distinguish 'G Nyman' and the year '1948', indicative of early production.

It is in good vintage condition, with no notches, repairs, cracks or discolouration. There are two very small impact marks that are visible, however, the surface still feels flat. I have included photos of these.
