Blown Glass Vase by Gunnel Nyman for Nuutajarvi Notsjo

Gunnel Nyman (1909 – 1948) was a true innovator of Finnish glass design and a forerunner of the Modern glass movement. Her legacy is a fantastic celebration of the emergence of female designers during the mid-century period.

Nyman was a master of beautifully capturing light and colour. Her design is particularly recognised for its minimal organic forms that echo a feminine quality, incorporating timeless abstract and subtle elements.

This stunningly beautiful spherical vase features blown solid amethyst & clear crystal with controlled internal bullicante. The vase is signed ‘G Nyman Nuutajarvi Notsjo -53’ in acid pen on the underside. It is in excellent condition (outstanding for age), with no obvious scratches, notches, repairs, cracks or discolouration.
