Handblown Glass Vase by Gunnar Nylund for Strömbergshyttan
Model B937, Signed
1950s (70s production), Mid-Century Modern, Sweden
Mint Condition
H 9cm x W 9cm, 1kg
The model B937 vase was designed in the late 50s by Gunnar Nylund while he was Artistic Director at Strömbergshyttan glassworks in Sweden. The design featured in Strömbergshyttan’s early catalogues. ‘B’ signifies ‘Blomvas’ or floral vase.
Notably, the beautiful glass technique used here was used by Asta Stromberg. The interesting effect is created when the underlay is dipped in hydrochloric acid, which reacts with the hot glass - producing a blue tint and bubbles within the glass. Asta Stromberg designed a small special collection in the early 70's, where she recreated some of Gunnar Nylund's models using this method - still attributing them to him, making this example quite a rare collector's piece.
This solid handblown crystal vase is signed 'Strömbergshyttan B937' on the underside.
