Mould-blown Glass Vase by Göte Augustsson for Ruda Glasbruk
These vases were designed by Göte Augustsson (1917 - 2004) and feature beautiful heavy textured cobalt mould blown glass. When hot glass entered the moulds, it actually burnt them in the process. This meant that the surface of each vase varied and that production costs were relatively high as the moulds had to be replaced after they deteriorated. As you can see, the relief created by this technique reacts beautifully with the light.
Ruda glassworks was established in 1920 and closed in 1972. Göte Augustsson was Artistic Director at the glassworks from the '50s onwards. He is well known for his brutalist inspired designs that incorporate hieroglyph-like patterns.
