Sterling Silver & Spectrolite Ring by Elis Kauppi for Kupittaan Kulta, Finland
This stunning Modernist ring features solid sterling silver that frames a polished dark spectrolite. Spectrolite is a hard and rare variety of labradorite that is only found in Finland!
It was designed by the famous Elis Kauppi and handcrafted by his workshop Kupittaan Kulta. It was imported and sold by Brødrene Bjerring, Copenhagen (1962-1988).
Elis Kauppi (1924-2004) is known for his sophisticated Modernist designs that incorporated stones native to Finland. His innovative approach that centred on simplicity and form, put Finland at the forefront of jewellery design during the mid-century period. Kauppi's work has been exhibited internationally, including Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum in Germany.
The inner band is stamped with the anvil motif (maker), '925 S' (silver purity) & 'Finland'. The outer band is stamped with the seller's motif.
It is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age) with a perfect spectrolite. The stone measures 18mm long and the face of the ring measures 21mm.
This ring is a small size. It is an AU size K 1/2 (EU 50 & US 5.5) with a 16.1mm internal diameter. If you're unsure about sizing, it is recommended that you measure a ring you currently wear to see if you're a similar size.
