14k Gold & Rock Crystal Ring by Elis Kauppi for Kupittaan Kulta, Finland
This elegant Modernist ring features a wide 14k gold band that rises to a sculptural four-prong setting, holding a faceted rock crystal that catches and reflects the light.
Designed by Elis Kauppi and made by his workshop Kupittaan Kulta in 1970, the bold yet minimalist form highlights the stone while showcasing the clean, modern lines characteristic of Finnish design.
Elis Kauppi (1924-2004) is known for his sophisticated Modernist designs that incorporated stones native to Finland. His innovative approach that centred on simplicity and form, put Finland at the forefront of jewellery design during the mid-century period. Kauppi's work has been exhibited internationally, including Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum in Germany.
This ring is fully stamped with the Finnish hallmarks: anvil motif (maker), heart motif (Finland) '585' (14k gold) town motif (Turku/Abo) & 'R7' (year).
It is in good vintage condition. The beautiful stone (10mm) has some surface wear commensurate with age and use. It sits securely in the setting. The band retains its original shape well. A personal engraving is present.
The band is medium sized. It is an AU: M 1/2 (EU 52 & US 6.5) with a 16.92mm inner diameter. If you're unsure about sizing, it is recommended that you measure a ring you currently wear to see if you're a similar size. This ring can be resized.
