Sterling Silver & Rhodonite Pendant by Elis Kauppi for Kupittaan Kulta, Finland
This eye-catching original Modernist pendant features solid sterling silver that frames a polished rose rhodonite ball that moves within the frame. It was designed by the famous Elis Kauppi and handcrafted by his workshop Kupittaan Kulta in 1975. The minimal design makes this piece very versatile and your favourite chain can easily be threaded through.
Elis Kauppi (1924-2004) is known for his sophisticated Modernist designs that incorporated stones native to Finland. His innovative approach that centred on simplicity and form, put Finland at the forefront of jewellery design during the mid-century period. Kauppi's work has been exhibited internationally, including Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum in Germany.
The pendant is fully stamped with the anvil motif (maker), crown motif (Finland), 925 (silver purity), town motif (Turku/Abo) & X7 (year). It is 3.6cm long and 3.3cm wide.
It is in excellent vintage condition with a perfect rhodonite. The silver has a light patina commensurate with age, which can be polished. The chain is not included.
