14k Gold & Smoky Quartz Pendant by Elis Kauppi for Kupittaan Kulta, Finland
This elegant Modernist pendant features a substantial faceted smoky quartz beautifully framed in solid 14K gold. Characteristic of Kauppi’s distinctive approach to Finnish Modernism, the architectural design combines curved and linear forms with generous negative space, creating a harmonious balance between stone, structure and space.
Elis Kauppi (1924-2004) is known for his sophisticated Modernist designs that incorporated stones native to Finland. His innovative approach that centred on simplicity and form, put Finland at the forefront of jewellery design during the mid-century period. Kauppi's work has been exhibited internationally, including Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum in Germany.
This pendant is fully stamped with the anvil motif (designer/maker), crown motif (Finland), '585' (14k gold), town motif (Turku/Abo) & 'H7' (year).
The pendant is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age). The stone measures 18 x 13mm and sits securely in the setting. Gold chain not included.
