Silver & Moonstone Necklace by Elis Kauppi for Kupittaan Kulta, Finland
This eye-catching original Modernist necklace features solid sterling silver that frames a large polished pale-blue moonstone. It was designed by the famous Elis Kauppi and handcrafted by his workshop Kupittaan Kulta in 1961.
Elis Kauppi (1924-2004) is known for his sophisticated Modernist designs that incorporated stones native to Finland. His innovative approach that centred on simplicity and form, put Finland at the forefront of jewellery design during the mid-century period. Kauppi's work has been exhibited internationally, including Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum in Germany.
The pendant is fully stamped with the anvil motif (maker), crown motif (Finland), 813H (silver purity), town motif (Turku/Abo) & H7 (year). The pendant is 4.2cm long and 3.4cm wide. The chain is '925' (silver purity) and is 18inches (46cm) long.
It is in excellent vintage condition with a perfect moonstone that sits firmly in the setting. The silver has a very light patina commensurate with age, which can be polished.
