14k Gold Necklace by Björn Weckström for Lapponia, Helsinki
Handcrafted in solid 14k yellow gold, this rare sculptural necklace belongs to Björn Weckström’s celebrated Sargasso series recognised for its organic, branch-like forms and richly textured surfaces. Created for Lapponia Jewellery, the piece exemplifies Weckström’s distinctive fusion of Finnish modernism and Brutalist-inspired sculpture, reflecting his fascination with the raw beauty of the natural world.
Weckström (b. 1935) is renowned for his innovative approach to jewellery, transforming rugged textures and unconventional forms into highly expressive works. His influential collaboration with Lapponia helped establish some of Finland’s most distinctive jewellery designs of the 1960s and 1970s, characterised by their bold silhouettes, tactile surfaces and departure from traditional notions of ornament.
The necklace is fully stamped with the Finnish hallmarks: crown motif (Finland), Lapponia motif (designer/maker), 585 (14k gold) & 'A9' (year).
It is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age). The very secure clasp functions perfectly. It comes with its original case.
The necklace is 45cm (18") long. If you're unsure about sizing, it is recommended that you measure a necklace you currently wear.
