Glass Vases by Andries Dirk Copier for Leerdam Glassworks
Nail Ball Series, Ref. "Copier Complete" pg. 401
1960's production, Mid-Century Modern, Netherlands
Very Good Vintage Condition
H 11.5cm, 9cm & 6.5cm
These stunning Spijkerbol (nail ball) vases were designed by the famous and important Dutch designer Andries Dirk Copier (1901-1991) in 1936. Copier worked at Leerdam glassworks in the Netherlands. Here, he was given the freedom to experiment, which lead to innovative glass making techniques and designs.
This series came in three sizes 11.5cm, 9cm & 6.5cm, all featured here. Each ball is made of very solid & heavy clear glass that features many small controlled internal bubbles that surround a circular stem opening. This is a really beautiful effect difficult to capture in photos! The three vases are all in very good condition with two minor visible glassmaker marks on the smallest vase.
I have included photos of the vases in bright light, low light as well as a photograph from the book “Copier Complete”, where they feature on page 401.
