Sterling Silver & Sodalite Ring by Andreas Mikkelsen, Copenhagen
This beautifully crafted ring features a large domed navy-blue sodalite held by a solid sculptural sterling silver frame. The minimal and Brutalist inspired design is the work of Danish jeweller Andreas Mikkelsen, who was registered in Copenhagen from 1970 until 1978.
Andreas Mikkelsen (1927–1982) was a renowned modernist jewellery designer known for his bold, sculptural forms and innovative use of gemstones. His work is highly regarded among collectors of Scandinavian design and is represented in museum collections, reflecting his lasting influence on 20th-century jewellery.
The ring is fully stamped with the Danish hallmarks: 'A MIK.' (maker), 'Denmark' (country), '925S' (silver purity) & '89' (model).
It is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age). The band retains its original shape and the stone sits securely in the setting.
The ring features an oval-shaped band rather than a traditional circular one and is designed to be slipped onto the finger sideways before being rotated into position. This thoughtful design allows the substantial ring to sit securely and comfortably on the finger.
Although the band measures approximately an AU size K½ (EU 50 / US 5.5) with a 16.1 mm internal diameter, the oval profile allows it to fit closer to a size L on most wearers.
