14k Gold & Ethical Sapphire Ring by Aaro Paavo Koistinen, Finland

This stunning mid-century ring features handcrafted solid 14k gold that beautifully frames a gorgeous facetted lab-created purple sapphire. It was designed and made by Aaro Paavo Koistinen (registered from 1926 until 1951) in Helsinki, 1948.  

The stone is a true testament of innovative mid-century trends! During this period there was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the new technology to grow gems, in particular colour changing sapphires. Many of these stones were treated with as much care and reverence as natural gems. This lovely sapphire exhibits both warm purple and cool violet blue hues. 

The inner band is fully stamped with the Finnish hallmarks: AK (maker), crown motif (Finland), '585' (14k gold), Helsinki motif (city) & 'T6' (year).

The ring is in excellent vintage condition (outstanding for age). The stone (17mm x 14mm) sits firmly in the setting and the band retains its original shape well. 

The band is a small size. It is an AU size J (EU 49 & US 4.75) with a 15.49mm diameter. If you're unsure about sizing, it is recommended that you measure a ring you currently wear to see if you're a similar size. The band can be resized.
