This truly stunning vase features heavy glass that was blown into a wooden mould. The molten glass is allowed to burn the mould, which creates a unique textured surface. It has a beautiful sculptural-like quality and is in very good condition for its age with no discolouration, heavy scratches or repairs. Some minor wear at rim. 'It is signed ‘Timo Sarpaneva 3352’.
Brutalism emerged in the 1950’s and grew out of the early 20th century Modernist movement. The term comes from the French words ‘beton brut’, which means raw concrete. This is quite fitting given the characteristics of Brustalism – rough, unfinished surfaces, unusual shapes, heavy looking materials and straight lines.
