This beautiful bowl features clear and honey amber glass in a Brutalist style. It was likely designed by Tauno Wirkkala (1932 - 2005), who worked for various famous Finnish glassworks - including Muurla, which he helped establish in the '70s. He is best known for his nature inspired designs of vibrant green or amber tones. Talent must have run in the family as his brother was the celebrated designer Tapio Wirkkala.
Brutalism emerged in the 1950’s and grew out of the early 20th century Modernist movement. The term comes from the French words ‘beton brut’, which means raw concrete. This is quite fitting given the characteristics of Brutalism – rough, unfinished surfaces, unusual shapes, heavy looking materials and straight lines.
In excellent condition, this bowl has no scratches, notches, repairs, cracks or discolouration. The original label has been removed.
